Photorealism work in progress - Visualizing Flow by paulcorfield Photorealism work in progress - Visualizing Flow by paulcorfield
Finished the background for this painting which is based on one of my Houdini FX designs. Just got all the red wires to paint now. I have a couple of competitions I want to enter it in, one in April and one in May so I'd like to have it finished by the end of March. There's a reference image in my DeviantArt gallery page. 28" x 48" Oils on polyester.

Thanks. I looked into chaoscope in the past before I started learning Houdini. Houdini can do strange attractors, julias and pretty much anything else you can imagine. It never ceases to amaze me.

They have a free version available called Houdini Apprentice, then an indy version and the full price version. All are exactly the same, the free one has a render size limitation at 1280 x 720 and a small watermark in the corner, the next one up is around £150 in the UK where I live and that renders at 1920 x 1080 HD resolution and no watermark. The full price version has no limitations on render size.

Yes it is a steep learning curve in the beginning. Many times I thought about giving it up but after a few months it started making much more sense and I'm glad I stuck with it. Now I'm around 7 months into learning the software and I'm just starting to learn the coding VEX language. There's loads of good tutorials around, plus there's a decent forum run by SideFX and also a really good forum at forums.odforce.net/ where some really knowledgeable people are always glad to help.
